The American Stock Exchange(R) (Amex(R)) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 1,178,874,680 shares as of the February 15, 2008 settlement date, an increase of 79,018,906 from the 1,099,855,774 (adjusted) shares reported on January 31, 2008. The figure represents trades through February 12, 2008.

In the year ago period, short interest totaled 750,619,455 (adjusted).

The February short interest position reflects short interest reported by all broker-dealers (not only Amex member firms) in Amex-listed stocks. A short position of 5,000 or more shares existed in 896 issues. Some short position was shown in 1,400 issues.

The attached short interest report was compiled by the Amex on the basis of information obtained from its member and non-member organizations covering all securities dealt in on the Exchange on both round and odd-lots.
