IT employment posted a small increase in April. According to the National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses (NACCB), there were 3,671,100 IT workers, an increase of 900, from the previous month. While there have been month-to-month variances, IT employment is essentially unchanged since May 2006.
"IT employment has remained essentially flat for the last 11 months because of limited supply of IT professionals, not lack of demand. To the contrary, demand for IT professionals remains very robust with unemployment below one percent in many IT skillsets," according to Mark Roberts, CEO of NACCB.
In January 2006, the NACCB IT Index reflected that employment of IT professionals returned to pre-Y2K levels.
While companies have always used IT staffing and solutions firms because of the flexible nature of their services, clients are increasingly turning to IT Services firms because they cannot fill their IT vacancies in many high- demand skillsets through internal channels.
