Mobile Banking Finds Audience in US
added: 2008-03-17

A recent Harris Interactive survey has found that US consumers are already banking and making purchases using their mobile phones.

According to the study, 16% of US mobile phone subscribers use mobile banking services.

There was also significant interest among non-mobile bankers. More than one-third said they were interested in checking bank account balances and transferring funds using their mobile phones.

The popularity of mobile purchases is also rising. One-quarter of mobile Internet users said they used their mobile phones to buy goods and services online with a credit card. Additionally, one-fifth of respondents were interested in making mobile purchases that could be billed directly to their mobile accounts.

Security is still a major concern. Two-thirds of respondents were worried about transmitting sensitive financial information, while 63% were worried about being exposed to scams and fraud and 61% were worried about what would happen if they lost a phone containing personal financial information.
