relation to total population, the USA has lost its first place on the list of affiliates generating profits from marketing the goods of others.
Marketing affiliates became active in Israel at the end of the 90s. With the London share issue of Empire Online during 2006 (achieving a
market value of over a billion dollars) Israelis discovered the potential of affiliate marketing and the sector has registered dramatic growth. This has been expressed in Israelis earning thousands, and tens of thousands of dollars a month through Internet affiliate marketing for tens of thousands of websites worldwide (eBay, Amazon etc').
According to Affilicon's 2006 data, 0.45% of the US population gained an income (either full or partial) as affiliates, generating traffic to the websites of large corporations and in Israel 0.22%.
During the course of 2007, and as a result of the highest annual growth rate, Israel took first place, with 0.52% of the population working as
marketing affiliates.
"We were surprised by the results registered by Israel during the last year, replacing the marketing giant, the USA, in first place," said
Affilicon's Marketing Director, John Peters. "Apparently the combination of Israel's economic growth, and the fact that Israelis discovered the marketing affiliate sector and haven't stopped making money through the Internet ever since, has propelled the country to first place. To mark this turn of events, we intend to organize a big conference for online affiliates marketing in Israel in November with a number giant international Israeli companies"
Major online merchants are using affiliates to drive traffic and customers to their sites. Affiliates are using search engines, forums,
blogs, social networks and other vehicles to generate traffic. Ebay, Amazon, Dell, 888.com and party gaming are among the largest ones.
