The thirty-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace is currently 4.79 percent, down two basis points from 4.81 percent at this time last week, and at the lowest level since mid-December of last year. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate hovered below 4.85 for most of the last week, but peaked near 4.90 percent on Thursday and Friday.

The economy is turning around based on what one hears from economists and the White House. But are most Americans behaving as if they believe things are getting better? When it comes to small things people can do each day to save money, consumers are still acting cautiously. For example, almost two-thirds of U.S. adults (63%) say they have purchased more generic brands in the past six months to save money while an additional 12% say they have considered doing so.

Customer satisfaction with e-commerce websites stages a comeback a year after suffering its first decline since 2004, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The e-commerce sector gains 1.8% to 81.4 on ACSI’s 100-point scale, nearly matching its all-time high of 81.6 set in 2007. The annual ACSI e-commerce report measures customer satisfaction with online retail, online brokerage, and online travel companies.

Finances are a family affair, according to a recent survey by American Express. In fact, a surprising seven in ten (71%) parents of children between the ages six and 16 say their children understand we are in a recession. This number suggests that talks about the current economic environment are happening at kitchen tables across the country. The survey also reveals that 91 percent of parents say they are committed to instilling lessons of financial responsibility upon their children in 2010.

The COUNTRY Financial Security Index® took a 3.2 point tumble in February to 63.1, the biggest single drop the bi-monthly measure has ever recorded and an indication that Americans remain undecided about their confidence in their own level of financial security.
