Daily Record Prices for Oil, Gasoline Hammer Consumers and U.S. Economy

Congress and President Bush must take joint action against the speculators who have driven oil and gasoline prices past all-time records, said OilWatchdog.org, a project of the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights. Gasoline prices nationally are expected today to surpass last year's record of $3.227, and California, at $3.571 per gallon as calculated by AAA, is more than 7 cents a gallon over last year's record.

As the first quarter of 2008 draws to a close, domestic growth is not much stronger than in the fourth quarter of last year (just under 1 percent, annualized, versus 0.6 percent, respectively). MIB Life Index Reports North American Life Insurance Activity Level in January

North American application activity for individually underwritten life insurance remained flat (+0.4%) in January year-over-year, according to the MIB Life Index(SM). Applications were off -4.2% when compared against December 2007 activity. January's month-over-month activity has lagged that of the previous December in six of the last seven years.

The Spherion(R) Employee Confidence Index, a monthly gauge of overall worker confidence, remained virtually unchanged in February, falling only 0.2 point to 48.4. The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive(R) on behalf of Spherion Corporation (NYSE: SFN), slightly decreased as workers' concern in the macroeconomic situation heightened.
