AeA released an employment study based on government data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that shows that the U.S. high-tech industry added 118,500 jobs between January and June of 2007, a two percent rise, for a total of 5.94 million. This is slightly less than the 143,000 tech jobs added in the first half of 2006.

Regional and state unemployment rates were generally little changed in August. The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index, which had declined in August, fell further in September. The Index now stands at 99.8 (1985=100), down from 105.6 in August. The Present Situation Index decreased to 121.7 from 130.1. The Expectations Index declined to 85.2 from 89.2.
