CarGurus(R)announced the results of its latest survey of more than 2,500 online automotive consumers worldwide. Fifty-four percent of respondents said they plan to buy a used or pre-owned car for their next car purchase. Only 46% said they plan to buy a new car. Given the tough times and lack of consumer credit, shoppers appear to be turning to the less expensive option of a used car.

Even in the midst of an economic crunch, consumers will still be buying gift cards at a time when every purchase counts. In fact, 59.8% of those aged 40 to 49 see themselves both buying and receiving gift cards, an increase from 48% in 2007. Demand is similarly strong for age groups 18 to 29 (53.1%) and 30 to 39 (52.2%). These are some of the findings in the 5th annual Gift Card Study conducted by Nanos Research on 1000 Canadian adults and sponsored by Givex, a global provider of closed loop card technologies including gift, loyalty and other stored value programs.

AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company announced results of an October 2008 study that revealed the consumer attitudes and behaviors of Americans have shifted rather dramatically in the past six months. Among the most notable results, almost eight in 10 of those polled (78%) ranked income guarantees as a top financial priority, up 16 percentage points from a similar AXA Equitable poll conducted in April.

Despite the expected cutbacks in holiday spending, more shoppers will hit the malls this Black Friday than last, according to Consumer Reports latest holiday shopping poll. More than a quarter (26%) of consumers plan to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving - up 5 percentage points from the 21 percent that shopped on Black Friday in 2007.
