Real average weekly earnings fell by 0.5 percent from March to April after seasonal adjustment, according to preliminary data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.6 percent in April, before seasonal adjustment, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. The April level of 214.823 (1982-84=100) was 3.9 percent higher than in April 2007.

RealtyTrac(R), released its April 2008 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report(TM), which shows foreclosure filings - default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions - were reported on 243,353 properties, a 4 percent increase from the previous month and a nearly 65 percent increase from April 2007. The report also shows one in every 519 U.S. households received a foreclosure filing during the month.

The U.S. Import Price Index increased 1.8 percent in April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. For the second consecutive month, higher prices for both petroleum and nonpetroleum imports contributed to the advance. The rise followed a 2.9 percent increase in March. Export prices also increased in April, rising 0.3 percent after advancing at least 1.0 percent in each of the previous three months.
