PriceGrabber.com(R), a part of Experian, examines home furniture and appliance online shopping trends in the latest Consumer Behavior Report, based on a survey of 1,945 online consumers conducted in late March 2008 and compared with a similar survey of 1,417 online consumers conducted in August 2006. In the March survey, 53 percent of respondents indicated that Web sites are their primary source for researching products and merchants for their next major home product purchase.

Financial executives on average reported nearly a 5% salary increase, according to a new study by Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF), the research affiliate of Financial Executives International (FEI). The second annual executive compensation study, which provides a year-to-year comparison of compensation for finance professionals, examined salaries, bonuses, long-term incentives and retirement benefits of over 1,900 financial executives from both public and private companies, of which nearly half were CFOs. The findings were unveiled today at FEI's 2008 Summit in Phoenix, Arizona.

Rebate checks began hitting bank accounts last week and will be arriving in mailboxes with the hope that they will stimulate the economy. Americans, however, are split on whether they actually will do so. Just under half (48%) of U.S. adults do not believe that spending their tax rebates will help stimulate the economy while 45 percent believe that the checks will stimulate the economy.

Following two consecutive months of sharp declines, monthly Chief Executive magazine CEO Index, which surveyed 635 top U.S. executives, rebounded slightly in April, rising approximately 13 percent to 96.4 points. However, the Index still continues to hover around its lowest levels since 2003 and well below (63 percent) where it was this time last year.

Nonfarm payroll employment was little changed in April (-20,000), following job losses that totaled 240,000 in the first 3 months of the year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. The unemployment rate, at 5.0 percent, also was little changed in April. Employment continued to decline in construction, manufacturing, and retail trade, while jobs were added in health care and in professional and technical services.

The Spherion(R) Employee Confidence Index, a monthly gauge of overall worker confidence, declined 0.3 point to 46.2 in April, decreasing for the ninth consecutive month and reaching a new low.

A new report reveals that an estimated 2 million children will be directly impacted by the subprime mortgage crisis as their families lose their homes due to foreclosures. As the first comprehensive analysis of how the crisis will impact kids, the report explains that this number will rise even higher when accounting for other populations, such as children being evicted from rental units that are going into default and those children whose parents default on conventional loans. These foreclosures will happen primarily during 2008 and 2009.

Fixed mortgage rates inched upward for the third week in a row, with the average conforming 30-year fixed mortgage rate rising to 6.16 percent. According to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large lenders, the average 30-year fixed mortgage has an average of 0.36 discount and origination points.
