comScore Releases June 2009 U.S. Search Engine Rankings

comScore, Inc. released its monthly comScore qSearch analysis of the U.S. search marketplace. In June 2009, Americans conducted more than 14 billion core searches, with Google Sites accounting for 65.0 percent search market share. Microsoft Sites grabbed 8.4 percent market share, a 0.4 percentage point gain versus May, after introducing its new search engine, Bing.

1.9 Million Foreclosure Filings Reported on More Than 1.5 Million U.S. Properties in First Half of 2009

RealtyTrac released its Midyear 2009 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report, which shows a total of 1,905,723 foreclosure filings - default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions - were reported on 1,528,364 U.S. properties in the first six months of 2009, a 9 percent increase in total properties from the previous six months and a nearly 15 percent increase in total properties from the first six months of 2008. The report also shows that 1.19 percent of all U.S. housing units (one in 84) received at least one foreclosure filing in the first half of the year.

U.S. Consumer Sentiment Continues Downward Slide, According to RBC Cash Index

Led by a dramatic decline in the expectations of U.S. consumers for the near future of the U.S. economy, the most recent results of the RBC CASH (Consumer Attitudes and Spending by Household) Index show a marked downward shift for July 2009, continuing the slide begun last month. The RBC CASH Index for July 2009 stands at 22.4, an 11.9 point decline from June's 34.3 reading.

The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate ended the week a hair lower at 5.58 percent, according to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey. The average 30-year fixed mortgage has an average of 0.41 discount and origination points.

U.S. Consumer Price Index: June 2009

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.9 percent in June before seasonal adjustment, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. Over the last 12 months the index has fallen 1.4 percent, as a 25.5 percent decline in the energy index has more than offset increases of 2.1 percent in the food index and 1.7 percent in the index for all items less food and energy.

According to the The State of Retailing Online 2009: Merchandising Report, conducted by Forrester Research, Inc. of 117 respondents, retailers plan to focus heavily this year on improving customers’ check-out experience. Companies will also place an emphasis on image enhancement on product detail pages and site search filters to help shoppers more easily find what they’re looking for.

U.S. Monster Employment Index Edges Down Slightly in June 2009

The Monster Employment Index slipped one point or one percent in June as online job opportunities fell modestly, largely in line with seasonal expectations. Year-over-year, the Index was down 28 percent, somewhat of an improvement from April and May’s annual pace of decline.
